Alex Suliven
Cosmetology Instructor
A Manteca native, Alex Sulivan graduated from Manteca High in 1978. After attending Stockton’s Delouxe Beauty School, Alex began his career in hair dressing at Villa 2000 Beauty Salon in 1980 and works there to this day. Wishing to help mold future beauticians, Alex began his teaching career at SJCOE in 1999. Alex expresses, “Hairdressing has been very good to me, and teaching has been my way of giving back to the industry and this community”.
Dedicated to perfecting his craft, Alex continued his education by studying with Toni and Guy, Wella, and is a graduate of Vidal Sassoon’s Masters Program.
When Alex isn’t with his family or at a hair show, he loves taking his motorcycle on long rides.
Susie Sappenfield
Cosmetology Instructor
Susie Garrison-Sappenfield attended Pacific Union College majoring in Psychology before enrolling in the Cosmetology program at Woodruff Regional Occupational Center in 1980. She has been a licensed cosmetologist for 32 years, studying under recognized leaders in the hair salon industries such as Toni and Guy, Sue Pemberton, and Michael O’Rourke. Susie continues to take classes to stay current on the latest techniques of coloring, haircutting, and hairstyling. Susie has been a Cosmetology instructor for over 15 years and her passion for teaching continues to thrive. Susie enjoys working with students and helping them to become licensed hairstylists. San Joaquin County has an exciting Cosmetology program and she is looking forward to meeting you, so please come by and say “Hello!”
Lara Haverly
Cosmetology Instructor
Lara has worked in the Cosmetology industry for over 24 years, having worked in various spas and salons throughout the Central Valley. Lara is currently living her dream as a teacher here a Career Academy of Cosmetology. Taking an evening class position in 2006, Lara has devoted her life to sharing her knowledge and experience with her students. With Lara’s guidance, her students have placed in the top three in all categories at State Competitions for the last three years. Lara is most proud of the high ratios of her students that pass the State Board Examination and go on to further their career in this wonderful industry.
In 1990, Lara graduated from Woodruff Regional Occupational Center, where she completed the Teachers Training course. She received her teaching credential from Sacramento State University in 2009. She has also taken numerous advanced training courses where she has received certificates from: John Paul Jones II and Sir Robert Clegg, ISO, Joico, Grund, and Goldwell. Lara is a member of the California Cosmetology Association.
